NI vet wins two BVA photography awards

A vet from Co. Down has won two awards in the British Veterinary Association’s (BVA) Veterinary Photographer of the Year competition.

Sam Price from Bangor, Co. Down, won the ‘Happy Pets That Make Us Smile’ section of the competition and was also voted by the attendants of BVA Live 2023 as the ‘People’s Choice’ award winner.

Price’s photo, named ‘Jumping for Joy’, features his dog Winnie on the beach.

Rare wolverine sighting caught on camera by Calgary photographer – Calgary

Multidisciplinary artists from Vancouver, Toronto to vie for $50k photography award

Multidisciplinary artists from Vancouver and Toronto are in the running for the $50,000 Scotiabank Photography Award.

Prize organizers have announced a short list including Vancouver’s Ken Lum, the creator of the iconic East Van Cross, and Sandra Brewster and Chris Curreri, both of Toronto.

The three finalists each get a $10,000 cash prize. The winner will be announced May 4.

In addition to $50,000, the winner gets a solo exhibition at the 2024 Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and a book of their work distributed worldwide by art book publisher Steidl.

Moss Park ‘through a lens’: Youth get behind the camera to capture their community

A group of young people snapping photos of Toronto’s Moss Park neighborhood over the past year say getting behind the camera let them capture a side of a downtown community that’s sometimes misunderstood.

The 15 youth had the chance to depict their community in a new light, and learn a thing or two about photography along the way, through a series of free photography workshops hosted by the non-profit organization Neighborhood Information Post (NIP) beginning in the spring of 2022.

Now, a selection of their snapshots will be featured in a photo exhibit.
