BRAINERD — “The News Photography of Steve Kohls” will be the focus of a Rosenmeier Forum at 7 pm Feb. 8 in the Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College, Brainerd campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Kohls has photographed breaking news, sporting events and created artistic photos for the Brainerd Dispatch for more than 47 years. A sampling of his work will include images of Brainerd’s 1987 and 1991 downtown fires, the city’s long fight against mandatory fluoridation, a devastating train crash near Motley, as well as feature photos of Little Falls artist Charles Kapsner and

How can photography capture change? Creatives explore for the inaugural V&A prize

‘Agents of Change’ is the theme of V&A’s inaugural Parasol Foundation Prize for Women in Photography, which seeks to identify, support and champion women in the field in partnership with Peckham 24. The projects submitted capture political and societal instability, but also interrogate photography’s capacity to capture these shifts and create further evolution. Staged imagery, archival exploration and autobiographical documentation are among the routes taken by the winning photographers. A total of five winners were chosen by the prize selection committee, which included the likes of Ronan Mckenzie and Vivienne Gamble, co-founder of Peckham 24.

Former Stourbridge and Dudley News photographer dies aged 73

phil loach A chief photographer who worked in the regional press for 45 years has died aged 73.

Tributes have been paid to Phil Loach, who served titles across the West Midlands during his working life.

Phil, pictured, worked on his hometown paper the Dudley Herald and later Stourbridge’s County Express, where he became chief photographer.

For several years he operated as a freelance and then joined Newsquest where he became chief photographer for the Stourbridge, Dudley and Halesowen News titles.

Phil, who lived in Tenbury Wells, died at Hereford County Hospital on Wednesday after a 16-month illness.

Canon to Launch Ethereum Photo NFT Marketplace Cadabra

Canon USA, the American division of the global camera and imaging giant, announced today that it will launch an Ethereum NFT marketplace dedicated to photography later this year, dipping further into the Web3 world after an NFT drop in 2022.

Cadabradescribed as a curated marketplace for tokenized photographs, is set to roll out later in 2023 following an initial preview at this week’s NFTs NYC conference. According to a press release, the marketplace will offer photos across various categories, including wildlife, sports, lifestyle, and landscapes, among others.

Canon has yet to reveal which photographers will participate in the platform,
