Picturing the past: How an American photographer captured 1970s NB

This is the story of a young American photographer who spent a summer in a tiny fishing village and ended up capturing a New Brunswick on the cusp of change. She rediscovered those long-lost photos 50 years later.

In 1972, Melinda Blauvelt had just completed her first year at Yale University, studying for a master’s degree in photography. She was heavily influenced by the rural photography of Walker Evans, her mentor and a photographer known for his black and white photos taken during the Great Depression.

Looking for a rural community where she could explore her passion and hone her

Canadian captures extraordinary beauty of ordinary pigeons in award-winning photo

As It Happens6:09Canadian photographer captures extraordinary beauty of ordinary pigeons with award-winning shot

Liron Gertsman usually doesn’t bother taking pictures of pigeons.

But when he spotted a pair of them preening each other affectionately in White Rock, BC — their iridescent green and purple feathers shimmering in the sunlight — he was moved to take out his camera.

“I definitely missed the pigeons for a while. But that changed when I captured this picture because I just saw them shining in a new light,” the Vancouver wildlife photographer told As It Happens host Nil Köksal.

My career as a travel photographer is tough enough, but influencers made it worse!

Before I felt the wrath of traveling photographers everywhere, I’d like to frame the title and all the words that follow. Photography is a tough business, regardless of the genre you work in. Maybe you work in multiple genres, like almost all the photographers I know, dabbling here and there alongside a primary field.

Then there is the top 5% in this world, who aren’t really photographers at all, but identify as “travel influencers,” and can usually be found yelling down a camera lens at any given moment.

Which brings me onto life as a working travel photographer. Many who

5 ways AI is transforming how our cameras work

As TechRadar’s Cameras Editor, AI is the subject I’ve written about the most this year. AI is fooling judges to win photography contestsand magically improving photo quality in the best photo editors, such as Topaz Photo AI, while AI image generation has come to the industry-leading photo editor Adobe Photoshop in the form of the Generative Fill tool.

AI is now the buzzword for the best cameras, too, as it’s increasingly being used to enhance their performance. It’s behind the new camera features and improved performance even in serious full-frame cameras like the new Sony ZV-E1. In our
